I captured fairies!

This project is a celebration of childhood dreams and an exploration of analog multiple exposures. Through playful experimentation, it captures the essence of softness and girlhood while inviting the audience to think beyond conventional norms.

Traditionally, femininity is often dismissed as weak or frivolous, associated with flowers, magic, and play. However, capturing these very elements empowers us, revealing the strength in embracing our true selves. There is nothing wrong with gathering for tea, gossiping with friends, or engaging in whimsical play as mermaids or fairies.

The creative process for this project was essentially childlike—immersing myself in crafts like collages and flower picking. The enchantment lies in the development of the film; the fairies and magic only become visible in the darkroom, akin to capturing them within the camera, waiting for their reveal.

Drawing from my own childhood, I recall the eagerness to discover fairies in the forest and how children perceive size in a way that differs from adults, making small objects appear immense and vice versa.

The aim of this project is to showcase a beautiful collection of prints, flowers, trinkets, and the magic residing within a woman’s mind. It underscores that play can exist in adulthood and revives the dreams of every little girl. The highly experimental process, filled with crafting and meticulous collaging, reflects the chaotic yet rewarding journey of capturing each image with precision.
